LA SULTANA MARRAKECH
So, here is to wishing I was back in Marrakech at the charming La Sultana, sipping sweet Moroccan mint tea while watching the birds fly. It’s the Red city’s well kept secret and I feel so lucky that I’ve had the chance to discover it.
Located right in the heart of the Medina, La Sultana is the true reflection of tradition and craftsmanship of Marrakech. From the moment we checked in, we were transported to an absolutely different world and our “Arabian Nights” fantasy came to live. It felt like we stepped into an Oriental fairytale and the noise of carpet sellers, fruit vendors, snake charmers and excited tourists faded away. Suddenly it was all replaced by the soothing sounds of water from the fountains, chirping birds and the smell of fresh roses that invades the space.

La Sultana, as you might already tell is an exceptional place. This luxury boutique hotel is made of five interlocking Riads, one more beautiful than another with it’s own special design and architecture and none of which fail to impress. We discovered each riad one after another and have been amazed by the exceptional craftsmanship that celebrates in the most exquisite way the Moroccan artisanal traditions. In fact, every little detail at La Sultana has been crafted to perfection – zellij-style courtyards, carved cedar wood shutters, elaborate sconces and lanterns…everything.
All of the rooms of the hotel are absolutely different and each of them has been meticulously decorated in an individual style and theme. We had an African themed suite named “Jaguar” which was grand in all of the senses with its own private balcony overlooking the pool and a huge round marble bath that I was always tempted to slide into.
But my favourite place of all was the roof terrace were we spend most of our time. The lantern-lit dinner with live Moroccan music was an absolutely unique experience on its own. With the majestic view of the city and under the sounds of Arabian lute you are being served the most delicious Moroccan food, what can be more magical than that?
The words can’t describe how majestic and special this place felt, it’s a true hidden paradise amidst the hustle of Marrakech.
